Christine Russell

Christine has been painting in Pembrokeshire for many years. Walking the coast paths, in awe at the unfolding of the landscape; its strange, ancient quality, achingly beautiful, raw and powerful. It’s the essence and the dynamic of this landscape that it is always her intention to represent. Light travelling over land, highlighting the colours of mineral-streaked rocks, transforming the sea from darkness to brilliance, moment to moment. She makes sketches or paintings for reference always using colour because, for her, it’s the colours that need to be authentic. However much the finished result moves toward abstraction, it’s the colours that ground a painting, connecting it to the landscape.
