Martin Schell

Martin is a local artist with a lifelong passion for the creative arts, who returned to painting (and to Pembrokeshire) following a lengthy career in the NHS. In July 2025 he graduated from a 12-month Foundation course at Carmarthen College of Art with a Distinction, forgoing an unconditional place on a BA (Hons) Fine Art Practice Degree course to pursue his immediate creative ambitions. He is particularly interested in producing Portraits, though the lure and beauty of the Pembrokeshire countryside has also drawn him to explore landscape painting. Martin works primarily in oil paint on canvas, capturing personality in layers and textures built up through the application, removal and manipulation of the paint. His current ‘Welsh icons’ series includes Waldo Willliams and Victor Spinetti, and will extend to such greats as Richard Burton, Sian Phillips, and Anthony Hopkins.
