Nick has a textile design past, of which the patterns inform his work. He mainly paints in oil. Some of his landscapes are imagined where he prefers to hold the feel of a place and then express it from memory. Others are more informed by sketches that he uses for reference in the finished piece.

His bird portraiture is based on photograph's that he has taken, both of the subject and setting. He then proceeds to place different backgrounds behind the bird infront allowing him to play with pattern and colour in the final composition.
