Susan Kirkman produces both figurative and abstract images in many different media. She originally trained as a scientist, which is probably why she finds the processes involved in printing techniques especially interesting. Her science background may also explain her inclination to experiment in a wide variety of painting media, styles and techniques. ​ She hopes never to be the sort of artist who, having found a winning formula, repeats it indefinitely.
